Home on Stage: An Evening Between Longing, Heritage and Future

On Wednesday, October 21, 2026, the State Theater Tübingen invites you to a multifaceted home evening in the Lindenhalle Ehingen with „...where no one has been before“. The production by Sascha Flocken reflects on the concept of home from different perspectives and poses the question, with great stage art, of who is allowed to speak of home, who feels belonging, and where home actually begins.

A Theatrical Journey Through the Region

The author Jörn Klare embarked on a journey through Baden-Württemberg for his research, to its borders and beyond. He met people who have lived in the region for generations, those who stay temporarily, or those who do not feel completely at home anywhere. From these encounters came a theater evening that connects personal stories with societal questions.

Between Garden Gnomes and Big Questions

The production combines documentary research, acting artistry, and a consciously sharpened imagery. The stage design by Doreen Back plays with familiar signs of regional idyl and simultaneously questions them. Garden gnomes, a photo wallpaper with grazing cows, and a mysterious window create an atmosphere between a home museum, living room, and surreal landscape of thought.

Dramaturgy Between Ernst Bloch and the Present

The title refers to Ernst Bloch's famous idea of home as a place that seems to belong to everyone's childhood and in which no one has yet been. From this thought, a dramaturgy develops that illuminates concepts of national identity as much as regional advertising slogans and everyday notions of belonging. The home evening does not remain in nostalgia but opens up the view to a globalized present.

Music, Light and Ensemble in Dialogue

The musical direction and arrangement by Jan Paul Werge add an additional rhythmic layer to the evening. The ensemble featuring Insa Jebens, Rolf Kindermann, Leo Kramer, Sarah Liebert and Gilbert Mieroph transforms research material into lively scenes, pointed encounters and contemplative moments. The audience reaction to previous performances ranged from great applause to lasting reflection.

Conclusion: A Stage Experience with an Open Ending

„...where no one has been before“ promises no comfortable image of home but an exciting theatrical pursuit. Visitors can expect a cleverly composed theater evening with a regional connection, political depth, and sensual stage moments. Those who wish to experience home not as a finished answer but as an open question will find a worthwhile evening in the Lindenhalle Ehingen.
