Film Music Legends in the Concert Hall – this evening has been cancelled

The concert evening Masterpieces of Film Music – Ennio Morricone & Nino Rota, scheduled for Thursday, October 15, 2026, at the Edwin-Scharff-Haus Neu-Ulm, has been cancelled. It was intended to be a musical portrait of two influential composers in international film history.

Morricone's Distinctive Sound

Ennio Morricone shaped the sound of Italian cinema with an extraordinary combination of orchestration, striking instrumental colors, and dramatic precision. His music for Sergio Leone's films, including A Fistful of Dollars, Once Upon a Time in the West, and Once Upon a Time in America, turned the soundtrack into an independent storyteller. The official Fondazione Ennio Morricone features more than 450 film scores and numerous accolades, including an Oscar, Golden Globes, BAFTA Awards, and a Grammy.

Nino Rota and the Poetic Side of Cinema

Nino Rota is closely associated with the cinema of Federico Fellini. His music combines lyrical melodies, dance-like lightness, and orchestral colors into a sound language that emotionally intensifies film scenes. Especially his works for Fellini's films are considered some of the defining examples of Italian film music in the 20th century.

Planned Concert Program at Edwin-Scharff-Haus

The announced program featured works by Ennio Morricone and Nino Rota, interpreted by pianist Mike Kaufmann-Portnikow and orchestra. The event was scheduled for 7:00 PM in the Great Hall of the Edwin-Scharff-Haus. The combination of piano, orchestral sound, and iconic film themes would have transformed the concert hall into an imaginary movie screen – from melancholic string areas to striking motifs of the Italo-Western.

Important Note on the Event

The event is officially marked as cancelled. Therefore, there will be no concert of this production at the Edwin-Scharff-Haus on October 15, 2026.

Conclusion

Morricone and Rota are among the composers whose music has an impact far beyond the cinema hall. The planned concert evening in Neu-Ulm would have presented these film music classics in a symphonic atmosphere but has been cancelled. Fans should pay attention to current announcements from the venue and the organizer.
